June 12 – General Assembly Preview – Cynthia Campbell

Pastor Cynthia Campbell will present an overview of issues coming to the General Assembly (national meeting of PCUSA) this Sunday, June 12 at 9:30 am in the Session Room of the Pleune-Mobley Center. Learn more about what the General Assembly isand what is being discussed at this year’s gathering.

June 19 – Faith in the Fiction of Marilynne Robinson – Matt Nickel

 On June 19 at 9:30 in the Session Room with Matt Nickel — this class will engage selected readings from the novels Gilead, Home, and Lila, that illuminate gifts of faith and the human spirit.

Epistles of the New Testament

The summer focus on the Bible returns to Adult Summer Sunday School.  Cynthia Campbell, Kevin Burns, and Elizabeth Hinson-Hasty will combine forces to lead a 6-week class on the Pauline Epistles. Class will examine the complexities of the person of Paul, why scholars debate the idea that Paul may have only written some of the letters ascribed to him, and explore the overarching themes of many of the more prominent Pauline texts.  The class begins on June 26 at 9:30 in the Session Room.

Fall Sunday School Classes

Feasting on the Word – Meets in the Session Room of the Pleune-Mobley Building at 9:30 am. This group engages the scripture(s) used for the sermon each Sunday. This class meets from Labor Day Weekend to Memorial Day Weekend.

 

A Place at the Table – Meets in the church dining room at 9:30 am. While this class is geared for parents of young families, all are welcome. This class meets from Labor Day Weekend to Memorial Day Weekend.

 

Issues Class – Meets in HPC dining room once a month. This class hosts guest teachers to come and teach about issues related to their work in justice, culture, current affairs, and denomination matters. Always engaging, always exciting. Learn about upcoming speakers. This class meets from Labor Day Weekend to Memorial Day Weekend.

 

Regular Mid-Week Opportunities

 

Horizon’s Bible Study – Meets third Wednesdays at 3:00 pm at Treyton Oak Towers (September to May). Join this Presbyterian Women’s Circle as they study the Presbyterian Women Bible Study through the Year.

 

Weekly Prayer Group – The prayer group meets weekly on Wednesday mornings at 10:30am in the Church Office Conference Room to offer prayer for various needs in the congregation and the world.

 

Special Opportunities – Throughout the year there are classes, groups, or experiences made available for growing faith and community. Keep an eye on the calendar for these opportunities.
