Serve in Church

Putting faith into action

In-Reach: In the Church

These are opportunities to serve in and around the church to help Highland Presbyterian Church be a place of hospitality in the name of Jesus Christ.

Ushers and Greeters: Sunday Mornings – Every Sunday our ushers and greeters seek to make the church easier to navigate and an altogether friendly place to gather for visitors and old friends alike. Greeter – Contact Patricia Connally at patriciaconnally@hotmail.com for more information. Ushers-Contact Jane Burbank at burbankjane@gmail.com for more information.

Work Crew Saturdays – Once a month a team gathers to give some TLC to the church grounds and building. Do you like to plant, clean, water, mulch, trim, paint, repair? Then come out for a workday. For more information contact: Willie Harshaw wharshaw@lfienv.com.

Meal Train – When people have short-term or special needs following a hospital stay, surgery, illness, loss, or other life circumstance,  assistance is often offered in the form of a meal train, where church members sign up to bring meals. For more information, contact Susan Sawning at sawning@gmail.com.

Office Support – Support the administrative work of the church through activities like folding newsletters, preparing mailings, answering phones, or sitting in at the front office. To help around the office, contact Lynn Diebold at lynn.diebold@hpclouisville.org

Annual Service Events

Collecting for Portland Avenue Community Trust (PACT) – January and September are months that the congregation helps stock the shelves at PACT. Look for grocery shopping lists at the Welcome Centers.

Give-a-Day Week of Service – Highland participates as a congregation in the Mayor of Louisville’s annual Give-a-Day Week. People are asked to volunteer their time and log hours with the church with a cumulative goal of 500 hours! Look for opportunities to serve next April.

Back-to-School Supply Drive – Each year Highland collects school supplies for students through Highlands Community Ministries and Kentucky Refugee Ministries. Look for bins in July and August.

HCM Thanksgiving Baskets – The church contributes 50 thanksgiving meals to help make thanksgiving more abundant for families in the Highlands neighborhood through Highlands Community Ministries. Donate food and help organize the baskets in November.

HCM Christmas Gifts Tree – Christmas is brighter with a some needed gifts. The church works with Highlands Community Ministries to provide gifts for families in our neighborhood.

Alternative Gifts Market – Church in the World makes it easy to give Christmas gifts that make a difference in the world. Each December look for your opportunity to offer a donation in someone’s name to a variety of our mission partners.
