Alma Choir Concert
Founded by the Presbyterian Church in 1886, Alma College is a place where good things happen for good people. A Phi Beta Kappa institution, with a student body of 1400, Alma College has become one of the premier liberal arts colleges in the United States. Bright, highly motivated students and an expert faculty are drawn together by the mission “to prepare graduates who think critically, serve generously, lead purposefully and live responsibly as stewards of the world we bequeath to future generations.
Located in the city of Alma, a community of 10,000 in the heart of Michigan’s lower peninsula, Alma College reaches far beyond our Great Lakes region. Many students come to Alma from the cities and towns of Michigan, but their Alma College experience leads them to lives and careers across the United States and around the world.
THE ALMA CHOIR is the primary touring choir in the Alma choral program. The Choir’s reputation for excellence, its many traditions and its ambitious performing, touring and recording schedule attract a group of talented students for whom choral singing is an important part of their lives. The singers all earned a spot in the choir after singing in one of the College’s younger choirs. The majority of the singers are preparing for careers in the sciences, medicine, business and public service, and the common thread that binds them is the joy – emotional, intellectual and spiritual – found in singing together.
Concert tours take the Alma Choir across the United States every winter, and overseas every other May. In 2016 the Choir won three prestigious awards at the Navan Choral Festival in Ireland. The Choir’s next overseas tour is scheduled for May 2018 when the Choir will travel and sing through Scotland.
The Choir’s tour concert this year will include classic sacred songs, African-American Spirituals, Scottish songs, and
